Theodore A. Calianos, II, MD, FACS is a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Calianos is a physician executive and health care leader and brings more than 30 years of experience in clinical medicine, health care governance, advocacy, and organizational leadership.
Prior to becoming EVP/CEO, Dr. Calianos served in numerous elected leadership roles within the Medical Society since joining in 1998, including President from 2022-2023. A dedicated advocate for physicians and patients, Dr. Calianos has extensive experience in health care policy and organized medicine. He serves as a delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA), chairs the New England Delegation to the AMA, and has held numerous regional and national leadership positions focused on advancing healthcare policy, professional standards, and physician advocacy.
Previously, Dr. Calianos practiced plastic surgery, served as Chief Medical Officer of Falmouth Hospital and Medical Director of Cape Cod Healthcare/Medical Affiliates of Cape Cod, where he helped lead the growth and development of one of Massachusetts’ largest multispecialty physician organizations. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Coverys and served on the board of Cape Cod Healthcare.
Dr. Calianos is a graduate of Boston College. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), completed General Surgery training at UMass Medical Center, hand surgery fellowship at Rush University, and plastic surgery fellowship at UTMB.
Dr. Calianos has been honored with an AMA Foundation Leadership Award and was named Barnstable District Medical Society’s Community Clinician of the Year in 2018.
