Massachusetts Medical Society: MMS Joint Providership Overview

MMS Joint Providership Overview

Joint Providership

The Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) may, at its own discretion, enter into a joint provider agreement with a non-accredited provider, when a submitted activity aligns with the CME mission statement and the joint provider agrees to abide by all policies of the MMS as outlined in the Joint Providership Agreement.

Submitted educational activities must be designed to improve physician competence, performance, and/or patient outcomes. In addition, all potential joint providers must be familiar with the ACCME's Standards for Commercial SupportSM with the ACCME's CME Clinical Content Validation Policy.

To submit an activity for consideration of joint providership, please complete the Initial Application for Joint Providership at least 6 months prior to the activity’s start date. Initial applications are reviewed within 1 to 2 weeks of receipt by MMS. Please note that you may be contacted for additional information. If your initial application is accepted, you will be informed of the associated joint providership fee and provided the CME Activity Planning Document and related materials for completion and submission to the MMS Committee on Continuing Education Review.

The Committee reserves the right not to approve an activity for joint providership. Furthermore, the MMS will not consider joint providership with organizations wishing to present activities that promote recommendations, treatment or manners of practicing medicine that are not within the definition of CME, or known to have risks or dangers that outweigh the benefits or known to be ineffective in the treatment of patients. The MMS will not provide or jointly provide a CME activity devoted to advocacy of unscientific modalities of diagnosis or therapy. The MMS will not jointly provide a CME activity with a commercial interest (any entity that produces, markets, re-sells or distributes health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients). IMPORTANT:  No statement of credit can be printed on materials or promotional mailings without notification from MMS that CME credit has been awarded by the MMS. DO NOT STATE "MMS credit applied for" or similar wording. Once an activity has been approved, MMS will supply the correct accreditation language for marketing and other materials. All promotional materials, both in print and online, require prior review and approval by the MMS.
