Massachusetts Medical Society Specialty Management Services

Under the auspices of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), Specialty Management Services (SMS) provides cost-effective management and administrative assistance to specialty societies and other medical organizations. SMS consists of a dedicated team of association management professionals who are committed to each client organiza­tion’s goals, values, and success.

Principal Areas of Activity:

  • Membership Management: Recruitment, retention, database management, dues invoicing and processing.
  • Education Meeting and Event Planning: Meeting and event planning, including development, promotion, implementation, registration management, exhibitor recruitment and CME accreditation.
  • Administration: Comprehensive management support for board and committee functions, including meeting planning, on-site staffing and minutes.
  • Member Communications: Management of newsletters and website content, as well as service of individual member inquiries and requests.
  • Advocacy and Strategic Alliances: Support the development of alliances between local organizations, national associations, advocacy groups and the MMS that promote physicians in their practices and quality care for patients. 


Leveraging more than twenty years of experience, the SMS team works with a client organization’s board of directors and executive leadership to meet each client’s specific priorities and objectives.

Current clients include ten state specialty societies, one regional physician organization and four regional specialty societies. Three of the regional specialty societies are accredited through the Massachusetts Medical Society to provide CME credits.
