An Update from Your President on the 2023 Annual Meeting

Theodore A. Calianos, MD, FACS

Your officers and I are excited to invite you to the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) Annual Meeting, taking place on April 24, May 12, and May 13.

The First Session of the House of Delegates (HOD) will be held virtually. I am so thrilled to announce that the Society will host the HOD Second Session and the Annual Meeting of the Society in person for the first time in three years!

I eagerly look forward to resuming the work of the Society as we always have – together, side-by-side. The Annual Meeting is also a time to convene with longtime friends, renew friendships, and network with colleagues – our MMS family.

I’ve been attending the Annual Meeting for many years, and I know that many of you share my opinion that it is one of the most compelling and important events our Medical Society convenes each year. We may differ in our opinions, but we all invest our time and perspective with a unified purpose – for the betterment of patient care and outcomes and the betterment of the practice of medicine. It is a privilege to collaborate with a group of esteemed colleagues and to make our voices heard in near real-time on the most pressing issues and challenges of health care policy.

I hope that you can virtually join our Annual Education Program on the timely topic of “The Changing Nature of Infectious Disease: What Every Clinician Needs to Know.” We also have remarkable speakers scheduled for our Shattuck Lecture and Ethics Forum. I look forward to celebrating MMS awardees and inaugurating our new president, Barbara S. Spivak, MD.

The Society is extremely fortunate to have talented staff who have perfected our virtual as well as our in-person events. I thank them as well as our expert speakers, and you, our members. I encourage all to amplify our Society’s Annual Meeting and Annual Educational Program on social media by using the hashtag #MMSAnnual2023.

Thank you for your cooperation and support, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Ted
