An Update from Your President on the 2022 Virtual Annual Meeting
Dear colleagues,
I am excited to invite you to the Massachusetts Medical Society Annual Meeting, taking place on April 28, May 20, and May 21. We have amazing speakers lined up for the Annual Education Program and the Shattuck Lecture Series and anticipate a busy House
of Delegates meeting. We also look forward to celebrating awardees and inaugurating our new president, Theodore A. Calianos, II, MD, FACS. I hope you will join us.
We were anticipating all this could be in person, but the omicron variant inserted too much uncertainty at the time that key decisions needed to be made. The health and safety of our membership, staff, and guests is our priority and led your officers
to make the painful decision to hold our 2022 Annual Meeting virtually.
The decision was not difficult from the health and safety standpoint, but was agonizing for those of us who were so eager to conduct the business of the Medical Society and catch up with friends and colleagues in person. As the pandemic continues to wane
and society opens more, we will look for other ways to safely congregate — including social events around the state throughout the coming year.
As we have demonstrated in the past two-plus years on many occasions, our capable staff and top-of-class technology will conduct this meeting seamlessly. The silver lining is that more of you can attend — those who live far away or would avoid in-person
gatherings because of potential risk.
I look forward to connecting with all of you virtually and encourage all members to participate via our technology platforms and on social media using the hashtag #MMSAnnual2022.
Thank you for all that you have done in the most trying of times. As always, I welcome your comments and questions.
Sincerely,
Carole
Carole E. Allen, MD, MBA, FAAP
