Massachusetts Medical Society: Membership Dues Pricing FAQ

Membership Dues Pricing FAQ

Effective September 1, 2023

For 240 years, the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) has served as the body representing the medical profession in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Today, the MMS remains the largest physician-led organization in Massachusetts, advocating for physicians and the well-being of their patients.

After careful consideration and review by the Committee on Membership, the Committee on Finance, and the MMS Board of Trustees, the House of Delegates approved an adjustment to dues at the annual meeting, held in May 2022, to occur over the next two years.

Q: Why are dues increasing?
Last year was the first time the MMS raised dues in 35 years. The two-year plan to increase dues is necessary to support the Society’s ongoing work advocating for its members and daily operations. In addition, the MMS is upgrading a software system for CME, expanding corporate partners and members discounts, and launching a new 860Health Conference to convene renowned leaders to address critical issues facing physicians today.

Q: When will this increase take effect?
The new membership fees will take effect September 1, 2022 (for the 2023 membership year) and September 1, 2023 (for the 2024 membership year) for all renewing and new members.

Q: Is the MMS still a great value?
Absolutely! The Society’s benefits and services translate into over $1,000+ in value. We will continue to offer and support the same event programming, lobbying and advocacy efforts, quality CME, access to the New England Journal of Medicine and NEJM Journal Watch Online, and practice management support. Additionally, the MMS supports our aspiring and early career physicians by offering $100,000 in scholarships to medical students and free membership in the Society for Massachusetts residents from an accredited residency training program and medical students.

Q: Will MMS membership dues continue to increase?
While there is no decision regarding future dues price increases, recommendations regarding any changes will receive careful consideration and review by the Committee on Membership, the Committee on Finance, the MMS Board of Trustees, and the House of Delegates.

Q: Can I renew early to avoid an increase?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer any early-bird incentives. You may wish to consider a multi-year membership, which offers up to a 30% discount. Learn more by visiting or contact MMS Processing at or (617) 841-2925 for invoice and dues information.
