Supporting Massachusetts Physicians Since 1857
The Massachusetts Medical Benevolent Society (MMBS) provides confidential financial assistance to Massachusetts physicians and their families facing serious hardship due to illness, disability, behavioral health challenges, substance use disorders, or
other life-altering circumstances.
For more than 165 years, MMBS has helped members of the medical community navigate difficult times with dignity, compassion, and hope — supporting recovery and helping physicians return to healthy, productive lives whenever possible.
Why It Matters
Physicians are not immune to life's challenges. Financial hardship can result from:
- Serious physical or mental illness
- Substance use disorder and recovery
- Loss of employment or disability
- Family crises and unexpected financial burdens
When these challenges arise, MMBS provides timely financial assistance so physicians can focus on recovery rather than financial survival.
"The Society's support eased my financial insecurity as I worked toward returning to medicine."
"Your support allowed me to focus on my recovery instead of my financial worries."
