The
Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety today released a report focused
on the financial and human cost of medical error, which you can read
here.
Our
Massachusetts Medical Society values the findings in this report, as
they will help physicians and the broader health care community identify
opportunities for improvements in patient safety.
The
medical society is committed to the safety of patients. It is our aim
and our oath to work to provide safe, effective, high-quality and
compassionate care for our patients.
We
know that a team-based approach to health and health care can help to
drive the safest and best
outcomes for patients. As physicians, our patients are the most
important part of our team and we must empower them to communicate with
us.
We thank the Betsy Lehman Center for convening the Massachusetts Health Care Safety and Quality Consortium. The
Massachusetts Medical Society looks forward
to working with our health care partners in Massachusetts to drive
actions that will prevent and mitigate the safety issues that have been
identified.
