“The Massachusetts Medical Society
condemns the decision to deport immigrant families whose sick children are seeking life-saving medical treatment at our hospitals from some of the most skilled and compassionate physicians
and health care teams in the world.
It is unconscionable and
risks the lives of patients who are most vulnerable and families who are most desperate to access care unavailable elsewhere.
The medical society believes that health care is a basic human right, and the decision to
remove
access to lifesaving care for a child is
inhumane
in a civil society.
The medical society’s full support is behind the dedicated health care community caring for these patients and the lawyers and advocates who are working to ensure that pediatric patients and their
families can focus their energy on treatment and
healing.”
