Massachusetts Medical Society decries firings of vaccine experts

We are deeply concerned by the unprecedented dismissal of the entire 17-member Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The American public and their physicians rely on these experts to provide independent, evidence-based recommendations on vaccine policy and have relied on it for over 60 years. These actions risk further undermining public confidence in the systems that provide accurate and science-based policy at a time when misinformation threatens public health.

As the most effective tool we have in keeping Americans healthy from infectious diseases, vaccines are critical to national and global efforts to prevent serious outbreaks of illness and preventable deaths and protect and improve health.
