Massachusetts Medical Society: Massachusetts medical leaders support our public health officials

Massachusetts medical leaders support our public health officials

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the physicians of the Massachusetts Medical Society have been privileged to serve as a trusted voice and partner to hardworking and dedicated public health leaders at the local, state, and federal levels.

While there has been widespread attention paid to the psychological, emotional, and physical toll the pandemic has taken on the health care workforce, our partners in public health have quietly shouldered an incredible burden and have risen to the challenge of deploying best practices and evolving data to combat a public health emergency unlike any we have ever encountered.

Our partners in public health are heroic. But we realize they are also exhausted and worn. They are resolute in their commitment to protect, serve, and advocate on behalf of all of us. The sacrifices that have been made by countless individuals, often behind the scenes, do not go unnoticed by physicians.

The challenges of the pandemic have revealed that there is an urgent need for greater support for public health infrastructure at the local, state, and federal levels to allow these experts to be thoughtful and strategic in response to our ongoing emergency and others that may follow.

We are proud of our colleagues in public health and humbled by the professionalism and tenacity of partners from across the state and the nation. We are grateful for their steadfast determination, and we thank them for the invaluable teamwork, which we will continue to rely upon as together we see our patients through the pandemic and onto brighter, healthier days.
