WALTHAM - Dr. Kiame J. Mahaniah, an Andover resident who was selected recently by Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey as the state’s new undersecretary of health services, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) as the 2023 recipient of the Society’s Special Award for Excellence in Medical Service.

The award honors a physician who has made a distinguished demonstration of compassion and dedication to the medical needs of his or her patients and the general public.

Prior to taking the position with the Healey/Driscoll administration, Mahaniah was chief executive officer of the Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC). Mahaniah previously served as chief medical officer at North Shore Community Health, Inc. and spent many years as a physician and leader with the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center.

He is a past winner of the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians family physician of the year award and the Essex South District Medical Society’s community clinician of the year award.
