The CAPRIE trial evaluated clopidogrel monotherapy versus aspirin monotherapy in a pre-specified subgroup of patients with peripheral artery disease.  Patients with peripheral artery disease who received clopidogrel had a lower rate of recurrent vascular events.  The use of dual antiplatelet therapy in patients with peripheral artery disease was assessed in the CHARISMA trial and was not found to be superior to aspirin alone.
