Waltham -- March 3 -- Amherst resident and physician Marianna Marguglio, M.D. has been honored by her physician peers of the Hampshire District Medical Society as the 2016 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing her professionalism and contributions as a physician.
The award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and to the community and who stands out as a leading advocate and caregiver. She will receive the award at the district’s annual meeting on March 22 at the Wiggins Tavern at the Northampton Inn.
Dr. Marguglio practices internal medicine at Amity Medical Associates, a medical practice she established in Amherst in 1992 with Susan Lowery, M.D. She is also on the active staff at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
In nominating her for the honor, her colleagues noted that Dr. Marguglio is “the epitome of a strong primary care physician, one who is compassionate, smart and dedicated, and committed to her patients and the practice of high-quality medicine.”
A cum laude graduate of Tufts University with a B.S. in biology, Dr. Marguglio earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine.
The Community Clinician of the Year award is the latest honor accorded to Dr. Marguglio. In 2013 she was selected as a Compassionate Caregiver by the Schwartz Center in Boston, and she has been recognized by Tufts Health Plan with a Blue Ribbon Designation for high performance on quality and cost efficiency measures, by Highland Valley Elder Services in Northampton for her efforts in promoting awareness about elder abuse, and by the University of Massachusetts School of Nursing with a Certificate of Appreciation for providing excellent educational experiences for nursing doctoral students.
