Waltham -- March 11 -- Pittsfield surgeon Parvis J. Sadighi, M.D. has been honored by his physician peers of the Berkshire District Medical Society as the district’s 2016 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing his professionalism and contributions as a physician. He will receive the award at the District’s annual meeting on April 26 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Pittsfield. 
 
The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community.  The Berkshire District Medical Society is comprised of nearly 500 physicians who live and work throughout Berkshire County.

Dr. Sadighi is being recognized for his four decades of service to Berkshire Medical Center and to thousands of patients in Berkshire County. 

Dr. Sadighi began his medical career graduating from the Teheran University Medical School with an M.D.  in 1962.  He completed his internship and surgical residency at Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) from 1965-1970, followed by two years in a thoracic and cardiovascular surgery residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He joined BMC in 1972 and became Chairman and Program Director of its Department of Surgery in 1981. He has also served three separate terms as a member of BMC’s Board of Trustees.

Board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery with special qualifications in vascular surgery, Dr. Sadighi has been recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was appointed a Professor of Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Assistant Professor of Anatomy at Albany (N.Y.) Medical College. 

Active in organized medicine, Dr. Sadighi is a Governor-at-Large and past president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the editorial board of Current Surgery, the official journal of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery. 

Dr. Sadighi has previously been honored with the Community Faculty Educator Award from UMass Medical School and is a five-time recipient of the Berkshire Medical Center Teaching Award.
