Waltham -- March 17 -- Brett S. Stecker, D.O. has been honored by his physician peers of the Bristol North District Medical Society as the district’s 2016 Community Clinician of the Year, an honor recognizing his professionalism and contributions to the community. He will receive the award April 19 at the annual meeting of the Bristol North District at the Venus de Milo in Swansea.

The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community.

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Stecker is a physician with Tristan Medical Care Centers in Raynham, a private medical practice he joined in 2004. He has been on the active community staff of Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton since 2004 and chairman of the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee since 2006. In 2014, he was elected President of the Medical Staff. 

In addition to his primary care practice and hospital duties, Dr. Stecker is the Rehabilitation Medical Director at Life Care Center at Raynham, a skilled nursing facility. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Alpert Medical School at Brown University in Providence, appointed to that position in 2004.  He is also very active with the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, writing and reviewing items for the Osteopathic medical board examinations.

Dr. Stecker received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and anthropology from Binghamton (N.Y.) University in 1994 and earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1999. In medical school, he was Class Valedictorian, the recipient of the Council of Deans Achievement Award for Overall Academic Excellence, and inducted into the national Osteopathic Honor Society, Psi Sigma Alpha. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Stecker has been a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 2008 and serves the organization as member of its House of Delegates and Committee on Nominations. He lives in Easton.
