7 Physicians are Honored with Committee Chair Service Awards

Waltham – April 21 – Seven member physicians have been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society with its Committee Chair Service Award, an honor recognizing exceptional leadership and service to the Society. They will receive the award at the Society’s awards luncheon at the annual meeting in Boston on May 5. 

The seven, two of whom are past presidents of the MMS, are being recognized for their long-term leadership and participation in Society committees.  The honorees and the committees they served:  

Maryanne Bombaugh, MDMaryanne C. Bombaugh, M.D., Committee on Legislation. Dr. Bombaugh has been a member of the committee since 2006 and served as Vice Chair from 2009-2011 and as Chair from 2012-20016. A member of the Society since 1993, she has served on a number of committees over the last decade and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees, the House of Delegates, the Task Force of Physician-Public Collaboration, the Committee on Recognition Awards, the Committee on Quality of Medical Practice, and the Organized Medical Staff Section. 



Leah Doret, MDLeah E. Doret, M.D.,  Committee on Young Physicians.  Dr. Doret became a member of the Committee in 2001 as a student, served as Vice Chair from 2011-2013 and Chair from 2015-2016.  A member of the Society since 1999, she has also been a member of the Residents and Fellows Section, the Task Force on Medical Student Debt Reduction, the Task Force on Nominations for the AMA Delegation, and the Committee on Ethics, Grievances, and Professional Standards. 



Virginia Latham, MDVirginia T. Latham, M.D., Judicial Committee.  A past president of the MMS, Dr. Latham has been an active member of the Society for more than 25 years. She has been Chair of the Judicial Committee since 2009.  She has also been a member of the Board of Trustees and the House of Delegates, and most recently, served on the Committee on Finance, Committee on Member Services, and the Special Committee on Senior Physicians. 



Denise Rollinson, MDDenise C. Rollinson, M.D., Committee on Nutrition and Physical Activity.  A member of the Society since 1996, Dr. Rollinson has chaired the Committee since 2008 and has served as a member of the Committee on Public Health for the same period.  




Thomas L. Rosenfeld, MDThomas L. Rosenfeld, M.D., Committee on Nominations. A member of the Committee since 2008, Dr. Rosenfeld served as chair from 2015-2016. He has also been a member of the House of Delegates, the Special Committee on Information Technology, and the District Leadership Council.  



Patricia Sereno, MDPatricia A. Sereno, M.D., Committee on Interspecialty.  Dr. Sereno has been a member of the committee since 2009 and served as Vice Chair from 2009-2014 and Chair from 2015-2016.  She is also a member of the House of Delegates and the Committee on Communications and served on the Task Force on Retail Based Clinics. 



Alan Woodward, MDAlan C. Woodward, M.D., Committee on Professional Liability.  A member of the Committee since 2008, Dr. Woodward served as Vice Chair from 2007-2011 and as Chair from 2012-2016.  A past president and long-time active member of the Society, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees and House of Delegates, the Committee on Public Health, the Judicial Committee, and has chaired the Committee on Legislation. He has also been a member of the Board of the MMS & Alliance Charitable Foundation since 2007.
