Waltham – April 25 – Cotuit resident and Cape Code Healthcare physician Daniel J. Canaday, M.D. has been honored by his physician peers of the Barnstable District Medical Society as the district’s 2016 Community Clinician of the Year, an honor recognizing his professionalism and contributions as a physician. He received the award earlier this month at the district society’s annual meeting held at the New Seabury Country Club in Mashpee.
Board-certified in radiation oncology, Dr. Canaday is Chief of Radiation Oncology of Cape Cod Healthcare, which encompasses the Clark Cancer Center at Falmouth Hospital and the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center at Cape Cod Hospital.
His colleagues honored Dr. Canaday for his work with cancer patients. He has been caring for cancer patients since 2001, when he joined the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center. In 2011, the Clark Cancer Center opened, and today he and his colleagues treat 80-100 patients daily from the Cape and Islands at both sites using the most advanced radiation therapy technology.
Dr. Canaday received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1989 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in 1994. He completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Pennsylvania and, following positions at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston and the Regional Cancer Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, he joined Cape Cod Healthcare in 2001.
He is a member of the American College of Radiology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.
The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community. The Barnstable District is comprised of nearly 500 physicians who live or work on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
