Waltham, Mass. -- May 9 -- Ulku Akyurek, M.D. of Shrewsbury has been re-elected president of the Massachusetts Medical Society Alliance, the organization of physicians' spouses, physicians, medical students, partners, and friends that, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), advocates and promotes good health among the citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Elected at the Annual Meeting of the Alliance on May 7, held in conjunction with the MMS Annual Meeting, Dr. Akyurek will serve a second one-year term as president of the group
Dr. Akyurek joined the Alliance in 2013 and served as co-treasurer and secretary for the past year. She received her M.B.A. in 2014 from the UMASS Amherst Isenberg School of Management and her M.D. degree in 1998 from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey.
Her medical background and focus on community collaboration has led her to a number of volunteer opportunities and leadership roles. She resides with her husband, Mustafa Akyurek, M.D., Ph.D., a plastic surgeon at UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, and two children, Yagmur and Deniz, in Shrewsbury.
