Massachusetts Medical Society: MMS Statement on Immigration and the Medical Community

MMS Statement on Immigration and the Medical Community

The following is a statement from James S. Gessner, MD, President of the Massachusetts Medical Society:

“The Massachusetts Medical Society represents a diverse community of doctors dedicated to the care of patients across the Commonwealth. When physicians are targeted based on their nation of origin, it has the potential to stifle innovative medical research, hinder patient access to care, and violate our fundamental commitment to all patients.

“Massachusetts is home to some of the world’s most accomplished and collaborative medical students, residents, and physicians, providing world-class care here in the state and contributing to scientific research that saves lives around the world. Leading physicians regularly welcome their international counterparts to institutions here in Massachusetts to improve our understanding of diseases, to develop potential new therapies, and to bring them to the patients who need them. The MMS is proud to support physicians of all backgrounds who share a commitment to improving lives.”
