Waltham,
Mass. – March 6th – James F.X. Kenealy, M.D. has been honored by the
Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2017 recipient of the Society’s Special
Award for Excellence in Medical Service, an award recognizing a physician who
has made a distinguished demonstration of compassion and dedication to the
medical needs of his or her patients and the general public. He will receive
the honor, one of the most prestigious presented by the organization to one of
its members, at the Society’s annual meeting in Boston on April 27.
In nominating him
for the award, his colleagues cited Dr. Kenealy’s “compelling and lasting
contributions to both the practice of medicine and service to fellow
physicians, patients, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts over the course of
his lifetime in the areas of health care delivery, patient care, education, and
administration.”
Dr. Kenealy is an
otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon with Reliant Medical Group in Worcester,
a group he joined in November of 2016 after more than 25 years of private practice
in Framingham and Milford. He has
medical staff appointments at St. Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Hospital.
A member of the
Massachusetts Medical Society since 1991, Dr. Kenealy has served the state
organization in a variety of capacities. He has been a member of the Board of
Trustees, chair of the Committee on Legislation, a member of the Committees on
Strategic Planning and Finance, a participant on a number of task forces and
working groups, and a member of the Board of Directors of the MMS &
Alliance Charitable Foundation. He is currently a member of the MMS House of
Delegates, the Executive Committee of the Organized Medical Staff Section, and
Executive Committee of the Middlesex West District Medical Society. He is also
a delegate to Organized Medical Staff Section of the American Medical
Association.
A cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College
with distinction in biology, Dr. Kenealy received his M.D. from the Perelman
School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed both his surgical internship and
residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kenealy is a Diplomat of both the American
Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Medical Examiners and an
Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of
Medicine.
A resident of
Hopkinton, Dr. Kenealy was the host from 2010-2012 of To Your Health, a patient education program produced by Hopkinton
Community Access Television, HCAM-TV that brought health information to town
residents on a variety of health topics.
He also served as a host for Physician
Focus, the Massachusetts Medical Society’s patient education program.
Dr. Kenealy was
previously honored by the medical society as the 2014 Community Clinician of
the Year from the Middlesex West District Medical Society and as a recipient of
a Committee Chair Service Award, recognizing his nine years of service on the
MMS Committee on Legislation, including four years as chair.
