– Greenfield
resident Julie Thompson, D.O., a physician with Pioneer Women’s Health
in Greenfield, has been honored by
her physician peers of the Franklin District Medical Society as the
district society’s 2017 Community Clinician of the Year, an honor
recognizing her professionalism and contributions as a physician.
In
selecting her for the award, Dr. Thompson’s colleagues noted that she
has “been instrumental in building clinical quality and community
reputation at the Birthplace at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and has
worked to create robust collaboration between nurses, nurse-midwives,
and obstetricians to deliver high quality care with low rates of
complications.” Colleagues also recognized her participation
on the Healthcare Solutions Committee of the Opioid Task Force of
Franklin County, helping to advance opioid education and intervention
for those affected by substance use disorder.
Board
certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a Fellow of the American
Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Thompson has
served patients at Baystate Franklin’s Birthplace since 2008. She was
appointed Chair of Obstetrics at the facility in 2012. She has served as
Chair of its Credentials Committee since 2013 and was recently elected
Vice President of the Medical Staff.
Dr.
Thompson has been a member of the Opioid Task Force of Franklin County
since 2013 and was recently appointed to the Advisory Council
for the Massachusetts Interagency Task Force on Neonatal Abstinence
Syndrome. She is also the founder of NourisHealth.com, an online
service offering education and coaching in nutrition and mindfulness.
Dr.
Thompson earned her undergraduate degree from the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst and her Doctor of Osteopathy from the
Kirksville
College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri.
The
Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the
Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each
of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant
contributions to his or her patients and the community.
