WALTHAM – Dr. Theodore A. Calianos II, a Cotuit
resident, has been honored by his physician peers of the Barnstable
District Medical Society as the district’s 2018 Community Clinician of
the Year, an honor recognizing his professionalism and contributions as a
physician.
Dr.
Calianos is a practicing plastic surgeon in Mashpee. He is employed by
Medical Affiliates of Cape Cod (MACC), the multispecialty group practice
of Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC) and serves as its medical director. He
is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and fellow of
the American College of Surgeons. He serves on numerous committees at
Falmouth Hospital and is a board member of CCHC and Coverys. He is a
longtime active member of the Barnstable District Medical Society, where
he has served as district president and is currently the district
treasurer.
A
member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 1999, Dr. Calianos
serves as the current chair of the Committee on Legislation and
alternate trustee to the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS). He is
also an MMS delegate to the American Medical Association.
Dr.
Calianos earned his Bachelor of Science at Boston College and completed
his doctorate at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston
(UTMB). He was a general surgery resident at the University of
Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. He completed plastic surgery
training at UTMB and hand surgery fellowship at Rush Medical Center in
Chicago.
Dr. Calianos is being honored for his long-term service to his patients, his hospital, and the community.
The Community Clinician of the Year Award was
established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a
physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who
has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the
community. The Barnstable District is comprised of nearly 500 physicians
who live or work on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
