WALTHAM – Dr. Lynda Young has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society with its 2018 Award for Distinguished Service to the organization.
The honor, one of the most prestigious given by the Society to one of its members, is awarded each year to a member of the Society who has made significant contributions to the goals of the organization through demonstrated leadership, member recruitment, and committee work.
Young, a Worcester resident and past president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, established Chandler Pediatrics and was chair of the Division of Community Pediatrics at the UMass Memorial Medical Center. She also was a past
member of the Worcester Board of Health.
“As president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, Dr. Young knew how to do the right thing by keeping her focus on the question ‘how do we help doctors, care for patients and improve patient health?,’” colleague Dr. Alice Tolbert Coombs said. “Health
care reform in Massachusetts has been complex and Dr. Young has played a leading role.
I watched her as an officer storm Massachusetts, meeting with members of MMS, patients, district societies, specialties societies, hospitals, community groups, the media and lawmakers. Her personal sacrifice and her commitment to MMS would have been exhausting for anyone else. When she spoke to the
legislators, she got their attention.”
Young received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is a fellow of the American academy of Pediatrics.
