Evidence supports collaboration with nurses and other collaborative team members in caring for patients with opioid use disorder. One aspect of care that is particularly helpful in this regard is that much of the care can be based on established protocols that are widely available, including assessment, medication management, and monitoring. This allows clinics to care for higher numbers of patients with opioid use disorder while remaining within federal prescribing limits per provider.
