Dr. Patterson had been a long-term member of the Committee on
Environmental and Occupational Health, serving as chair from 1998 -
2006. As chair, Dr. Patterson led the committee passionately and
effectively. During his tenure as chair, the committee advised
MMS's responses to environmental issues, for example, urging the
Department of Environmental Protection to clean up coal-burning
power plants, encouraging state mercury advisories for fish, and
testifying for fair workers' compensation reimbursement rates. In
addition, Dr. Patterson led the development of the MMS's
sponsorship of two very successful environmental health conferences
which featured nationally recognized faculty. Dr. Patterson
recently served on the Committee on Public Health, participating in
outreach and education efforts aimed at Massachusetts citizens,
such as MMS's
Your
Health First ad campaign to promote preventive health
practices, and MMS's
Physician Focus cable TV and print
educational efforts on environmental and worker health
issues.
