Pediatrician Sahdev R. Passey, MD, founder of a free care clinic in Shrewsbury, is the recipient of the MMS 2019 Senior Volunteer Physician of the Year Award. His Wednesday evening program at the Free Health Stop is staffed by volunteer physicians and UMass Medical School students. Patients hail from all over the world, and during any session caregivers may be speaking up to six languages. “I strongly feel that it is our moral and ethical responsibility to help those in need and those who are working hard and struggling to improve quality of life for themselves and a better future for their children,” says Dr. Passey, who founded the clinic in 2005.
Dr. Passey is president of the Worcester District Medical Society and a member of the MMS International Medical Graduates Section. Free Health Stop is a collaboration of the Indian Medical Association of New England and the India Society of Worcester. It is also supported by the Massachusetts Medical Society and Alliance Charitable Foundation, which helps fund health care services for underserved communities across the Commonwealth.
