Boston University School of Medicine student Jackson Steinkamp wins 2018 Information Technology Award from Massachusetts Medical Society

Jackson SteinkampWALTHAM – Jackson Steinkamp, a Boston University School of Medicine student, is this year’s winner of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Information Technology Award.

The honor recognizes the development of an information technology tool that helps physicians practice medicine, teach medicine, or pursue clinical research and comes with a $3,000 award.

A third-year student, Steinkamp’s project is “MySafeRx,” which is a multi-component technological platform designed to address challenges in the delivery of Buprenorphine-naloxone. The platform integrates text messaging reminders, secure electronic pill organizers, daily remote brief motivational recovery support visits, and a standardized protocol for supervised self-administration of Buprenorphine-naloxone.

Steinkamp is a native of Brookings, South Dakota and graduated from Brookings High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in computer science in 2015, and plans to become a practicing clinician and researcher. Steinkamp’s general research interests include mobile health, machine learning, healthcare quality improvement, and the development of tools to help make the work of clinicians and medical researchers more efficient and enjoyable.
