Effective Chart Review for Quality Improvement
This course has expired and is available for content purposes only.
In 2011, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine (BORIM) asked the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) to explore the best ways to assess a physician's continuing competency to practice medicine. The Society's Committee on the Quality of Medical Practice (CQMP) and expert consultants conducted surveys and focus groups of primary care physicians and specialties. Top responses from this research indicated physicians preferred chart review and review by peers as good tools to assess competence.
This CME activity specific to chart review, was developed from the experience and lessons learned from the three pilot groups: Harvard Vanguard, Atrius Health; Reliant Medical Group, Atrius Health and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) to create better measures of physician competency.
Learning Objectives

- Explore different models and methods of performing structured chart review to assess competency and quality of medical care.
- Understand the performance of a gap analysis and improvement plan based upon the findings of structured peer review.
