Massachusetts Medical Society: Arts, History, Humanism & Culture Member Interest Network

Arts, History, Humanism & Culture Member Interest Network

main collage

The Member Interest Network (MIN) brings physicians together around artistic interests and the natural world. The MIN is open to members of the MMS and the MMS Alliance, whose interests drive our programming.

Our events can help you:

  • Connect with other MMS members who have overlapping interests
  • Enjoy your non-medical passions, skills, and learning
  • Network with physicians throughout the state across varying medical disciplines and practices

You are welcome to bring family members, friends, or other guests to our social gatherings and activities.

Questions? Contact Cathy Salas at (413) 596-9231 or csalas@mms.org.

Sections of the Member Interest Network

Arts

The Arts Section of the MIN brings physicians together for events involving drawing, painting, sculpting, and other visual arts.

The Arts Section sponsors the annual Nancy N. Caron Member Art Exhibit, held each year at the MMS Annual Meeting.

In addition, the Arts Section hosts virtual art exhibits featuring physician members’ artwork in their Virtual Music and Art Events.

Birding

The Birding Section is designed for dedicated birders who appreciate good (human) company on their excursions, as well as backyard bird-spotters who want to connect, get out, and learn more about birding.

Group hikes to catch the fall hawk migration, or participate in a bird banding and release tracking projects on Plum Island. If you aren’t sure how or where to turn bird watching into a bona fide hobby or interest, our Birding 101 excursion is for you. You can join us in the many virtual lectures we have throughout the year!

Gardening

Gardens and health are closely connected, both for the therapeutic value of tending plants, and for the medicinal properties of so many plants that we tend. The MIN Gardening Section periodically organizes garden tours, walks and there are virtual lectures held throughout the year.

The MIN commends the many people who have contributed to the creation and maintenance of the gardens at MMS Headquarters and encourages everyone to learn more about and enjoy these gardens.

Medical History

The Medical History section of the MIN organizes periodic events, such as tours and presentations at the Boston Medical Library, the official library of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Music Section

Our Music and Medicine Program is for those who want to pick up your instrument, sing or dance in a performance setting, as a soloist or part of a group. Whether you are a seasoned performer or it is your first time onstage, we invite you to participate in or attend our next event.

MIN Governance, History, and Mission at a Glance

The purpose of the Arts, History, Humanism and Member Interest Network is to explore the creative side of member interests.

We strongly support the MMS focus on reducing health disparities and we acknowledge the importance of working to achieve health equity.

In our committee's role to bring enrichment to the MMS membership with programs in art, history, music, literature and nature, we hope to provide activities which will bring us together and build friendships and a warm welcome for all Society members and their families and friends.
