Dr. Darrolyn McCarroll honored by Bristol North District Medical Society as 2021 Community Clinician of the Year

Dr. Darrolyn McCarroll

Dr. Darrolyn McCarroll, an internist in Franklin, has been selected as the Bristol North District Medical Society’s 2021 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing her professionalism and contributions as a physician.

McCarroll was nominated for her long-time contributions in caring for her patients who suffer from addiction.

McCarroll has practiced medicine in Massachusetts for more than 30 years, 20 years in the town of Franklin. A New Jersey native, she attended New Jersey Medical School and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Rutgers University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. She went on to serve four years as a noncommissioned officer in the National Health Service, where she tended to the needs of those living in medically underserved areas in northwest Pennsylvania, a portion of her career she describes as her most fruitful and satisfying.

Upon discharge from service in 1990, she was among a cadre of eager, young physicians who came to Massachusetts to form an affiliated group family practice. Staying true to her desire to provide compassionate care, McCarroll’ s practice had a reputation for high patient satisfaction and was consistently awarded the Blue Ribbon for performance.

After spending 17 years as an elected member of the Franklin Board of Health, she received a special citation in 2009 from the Massachusetts State House for dedicated and sustained service to the town of Franklin.

McCarroll left private practice in 2007 to pursue the study of alternative and complementary medicine. She soon revived her passion for the art of medicine by expanding her experience in and knowledge of addiction medicine.

McCarroll currently serves as medical director of methadone and OBAT clinics. She is responsible for overseeing the care of nearly 2,000 patients as well as monitoring recovery programs of several hundred sober home residents.
