ESDMS Medical Student Scholarship Program
Philosophy:
To assist in funding the medical education of a student from an Essex South city or town.
Qualifications:
- Residency in an Essex South community for at least 5 years prior to college, with a desire to return and practice in this area. These communities are: Beverly, Danvers, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Manchester, Marblehead,
Middleton, Nahant, Peabody, Rockport, Salem, Saugus, Swampscott, Topsfield and Wenham, Massachusetts.
- Current curriculum vitae, which includes the permanent address, high school with date of graduation, and medical school with expected date of graduation.
- A statement of academic standing from the medical school.
- A letter of recommendation from a district society member, if possible.
- A letter that includes a statement of personal goals.
Scholarships will be awarded at the Annual Meeting of the Essex South District Medical Society (usually in April).

Dr. Melissa J. Sherman honored by Essex South District Medical Society as 2023 Community Clinician of the Year
Dr. Melissa Sherman, an obstetrician/gynecologist at Essex County Ob/Gyn Associates in Beverly, has been selected as the Essex South District Medical Society’s 2023 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing her professionalism and contributions
as a physician.
Dr. Sherman is also the medical director for Lahey Beverly Compass/Moms Do Care and was a past clinical instructor at Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Sherman is a graduate of Swarthmore College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Eileen C. Haley honored by Essex South District Medical Society with 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. Eileen C. Haley, a physician at Lynnfield Medical Associates at Harvard Medical Associates, Peabody has been selected by Essex South District as the recipient of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Haley has over 40 years of clinical experience and is board certified in internal medicine and emergency medicine.
Dr. Haley is a graduate of Stanford University and Boston University School of Medicine.
