Dr. Michael Plager honored by Franklin District Medical Society as 2021 Community Clinician of the Year

Dr. Michael Plager

Dr. Michael Plager, a nephrologist from Greenfield, has been selected as the Franklin District Medical Society’s 2021 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing his professionalism and contributions as a physician.

Plager treats patients with medical conditions related to kidneys at medical centers in Greenfield and in Keene, N.H. With partner Dr Despina Hoffman, Plager is part of Kidney Care and Transplant Associates of New England. In addition, he manages dialysis programs at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Cheshire Medical Center.

Plager is a graduate of Amherst College, earned a Master’s degree from Boston University before moving on to University at Buffalo School of Medicine. He then completed internal medicine and nephrology training at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University.

Doctors for a Day

Franklin has their High School Doctor for a Day program annually. The program assists young people who have expressed an interest in the field of medicine to have hands-on experience in the complex health care environment.


Franklin District Medical Society Announces Scholarships

The Franklin District Medical Society, the local chapter of the Massachusetts Medical Society, is pleased to announce that applications are now available for its Student Grant Aid Program. The "Percy W. Wadman, M.D. Scholarship" is awarded to a medical student(s) based on merit and financial need. Grants range from $1,000 to $2,500 and are awarded annually. The following criteria must be met for an individual to be considered:

  • At least one parent or guardian must live in Franklin County.
  • A letter of matriculation must be submitted from the medical school the individual is attending.
  • A copy of the letter of recommendation from the undergraduate school to the medical school must be submitted.
